least 30% of your interview constitutes this part; get prepared about your current activities at Job, and
expect some actual definitions out there.

    MBA Questions

  • Why MBA after Technical education
  • Why MBA Now, why not before this time

Now I would like to share some questions like those asked to me

    1. They started from my previous studies and remained there till end 🙂 (very strange)
    2. Read that day’s newspaper, at least go through the headlines
    3. Read some about the causes of crises these days
    4. Look at that day’s celebration if any, they asked me about the Allama Iqbal’s death Anniversary
    5. IPL remained hot during my Interview, but they asked simple questions regarding this

This is it. Above are some questions they asked me during my Interview. Good Luck !

I will also blog about some stuff that I goggled before my Interview, You will find in Next Post.

Yes, Javed you have to appear in a Graduate Management Admission Test, and there are two options for you.

      1. To appear in Internationally recognized test that is GMAT, valid for 5 years, about $250 for test fee, and bit difficult.

      2. To appear in LMAT, an official test taken by LUMS, valid for 2 years, mostly recommended for pakistani students, and took only 2000 PKR.

After taking exam, You have to submit your application, that is online, with a fee of 1000 PKR. If you got good marks in LMAt, they will call you for an Interview and it all depends on your interview, as you might have studied here. If everything goes well, you will InshahAllah get admission in the most prestigious Management University of Pakistan, LUMS.

      hope it helps.

      Dear Wajid,
I have posted my comment about practice material on the Usman’s other blog. Il suggest that you use Kaplan GMAT material for practice. It has got all the shortcuts that u need when solving tedious maths problems.
For Verbal critical reasoning, I would say that princeton review’s book is a better option.
The most difficult of all is the sentence correction, try working it out from some SAT sentence completion and usage practice material. I have the material on me, I can lend it to you if you need it.
And off course RC, my weakest link, and LMAT’s most difficult portion. for RC, I would say, PRACTICE PRACTICE AND PRACTICE…..try reading books….

I just got an interview call from LUMS admission office. There is a problem I am facing. I am sharing it as you might give some helpful advice. They have asked for original educational documents and I dont have them on me. I have sent them for other reasons to HEC. What should I do?

      hi,
Omer this is something really tricky, as If you would tell them that you sent your documents to HEC to get attested do that you may apply to Sweden or somewhere else, that would be a negative point.

So, I would suggest you to manipulate them a little bit, I hope you could do it easily, but don’t name HEC, caz everyone know the reason.

In my point of view, you should take the photocopies with you and say something about not bringing the original documents.

Good Luck, I hope InshahAllah You will get a seat there.

But to my surprise, they have asked me to show the original documents on the SOP day to confirm my admission.

And by the way, my interview was 7 minutes long.

      Hello Usman,

I am doing Engineering and I am in third year. Next year would be my last year and I want to do MBA from LUMS immediately after that. So I will be applying next year.

      There are 2 problems:

First I will NOT have complete 16 years of education which they require till April(time of admissions), however I will have till July(engineering would be complete by that time inshallah).

Secon: I have NO work experience except internship at Siemens.

SO what do you think..?/Should I apply!!

      Reply
    17. Omer Hussain

      Dear ubid,
The two problems you have are very genuine problems. LUMS MBA is unlike the IBA MBA. They have a very professional approach towards their course line. They believe in peer-to-peer learning and prefer that prospective students bear appropriate work experience.
I would advise that you gain quality work experience worth sharing with the cohort and in the mean time prepare hard for the LM Aptitude Test. Take diagnostics first and that would let you know where you stand.

      ^thanks a lot for response.

I have already started preparation for LMAT and I am pretty sure that I will get through it with good or above average marks..

Actually I am hesitant in doing MBA after one year experience due to that fact that jobs are scarce in Pakistan and if one gets jobs(finally) then it is difficult to leave after a year or so.

This is the reason that I want to do MBA first and then I want to go in market.

So what you think! Do I have prospects of being selected there..??
My academic record is fine and I am trying my best for LMAT as well.

      regards

    19. Omer Hussain

      Dear Ubid,
I really respect your thoughts but I would advise that you start looking at things practically. Work experience is mandatory to get admission in the SDSB MBA class, never the less they do consider fresh graduates but with exceptional grades in the under-grad and extra ordinary LMAT scores i.e. 730-750 (99 percentile).
Finding a job in this market condition is definitely difficult but attaining one makes you standout among the lot and shows your potential to prove your mettle in the future as well.
      I would advise you
      – not to miss any LMAT, take all the tests in any season, but apply wisely.
      – to take quality work experience of two years. Do not rush and stay focused. In my interview the panel only asked about my work experience, though it was a 7 minute interview. But other candidates with comparatively lower LMAT scores and less work experiences were grilled for about half an hour to 50 minutes and please note that they were NOT offered admission.
      – to work hard on your essays because they play a vital role to get you into any good business school.

Please also be advised that diversified and unique work experience counts the most. Coming from a background which no other has ever witnessed. I belong to the PAF and manage supply chain of avionics and military projects.

Last year the average score of students admitted was 620. I dont know about the figures this year, but i will let you know when I meet other students there.

By the way, where are you doing your GMAT preparation from, what was your initial diagnostic score and which university are you studying at? LUMS is not like any other business school in Pakistan.

Feel free to contact me in case you need further help and advice.

But I am pretty sure that I will get through it if I keep focused on that. I have fine writing flair as well.

      hello Masab,

I hope Omer will be the right person to suggest you better, because i was unable to join LUMS (the decision was late though, and i left country meanwhile, anyhow).

I would recommend you to go through the books of Princeton Review, designed specifically for GMAT. These books and 800 GMAT questions would help you a lot for LUMS, moreover, Barron’s books are also handy.

And i would recommend you to appear in both exams of LUMS, LUMS test is bit easier than GMAT, but of course you may go for GMAT.

Lastly, studying with Job is totally up to you. I have seen people managing with Job, and I have many friends, those who left their jobs for LUMS preparation. So, it’s entirely up to you.

      Salam Asad,
Well Asad when did you pass out from SSUET, how long have you been working and who is your employer? Apart form your CGPA, these things count a lot. Regarding the GPA thing, I would like to advise that its about the way you sell yourself. I also did my BS Electronics from SSUET and am still closely associated with the university after 4 years have passed. A low CGPA does hinder in your way, as in my case, they asked quite a lot in the interview about my CGPA being below 3.0 but I had my answers ready and I definitely justified my view in front of the panel.

Try to find something big in your transcript other than the CGPA.

      Salam Masab,
Sorry for a delayed reply as I am quite stressed these days and only Allah knows how long am going to stay this way. I ask everybody to kindly pray for me. Masab, I would advise you to study for GMAT or LMAT while you are working. As in my case I used to go to the library directly after office and was able to spare an hour and a half as well for workout in between from 5.30 to 10.30. Consistency is the key. Two to three hours on the weekdays and full-time studies on the weekends would be suitable in your case.
Your other question regarding taking GMAT or LMAT, well its on you to decide. the major differences are cost and CAT. I would advise that if you want to apply for LUMS only, take LMAT and take all three of them.
Regarding the books, please tell me which city do you live in. I would advise accordingly.
I again apologize for a late response.

      Silza,
Teaching experience and TA-ship are two different things. Please clarify.
To answer your question, I would like to add here that to allow you to become a part of a case study based MBA class, they (admission assistants) look at the value you are going to bring to the class from your previous work experience. What you can actually share with the class that would increase their subject knowledge and what role you are going to play in peer-to-peer learning. I hope this response helps you solve the problem you posted.
Do inquire if you require further explanation.
My sincere apologies for a delayed reply. Do remember me in you prayers please. I need them the most.

Can anyone tell me that if I were to be called for an interview then after submitting my documents, approximately how much time would I have to wait before an interview call arrives? Its been a little over a month since i submitted my docs along with my LMAT score.

First of all I would like to apologize for not replying to your messages as I was crazy busy in my finals and projects.
-Sunny, none of the strategies can help you prepare in five days.
-Saad, They have just started the process for shortlisting candidates for interviews. Hopefully you will be informed if you are chosen. Do not miss the phone call, because they inform you only 2 days prior to your interview.
-Marium, I guess I have answered your questions.

      Hello Ali G,
Thats a good score. Good for you….and 5 years experience sounds pretty good as well. Your interview questions would be more related to your work experience, so be ready to explain what you have done. Go prepared for it. I don’t think that they would grill you but still, prepare for the worst.

your score is good. gpa is good. you have got the required work experience. i think you would be called for an interview. you can certainly postpone it but would have to re apply if you get rejected. plus there is no set questions for interview. if you are called get ready to be tested from any angle.
